Allergy, Immunology, Rheumatology, and Infectious Disease
Overview
Physicians in the Division of Pediatric Allergy, Immunology, Rheumatology, and Infectious Disease (fondly referred to as "AIRID") assist in the diagnosis and treatment of children with known or suspected immune deficiencies, rheumatologic diseases, autoimmune diseases, and allergic diseases, as well as a broad range of infections and evaluation of fevers of unknown origin (FUO). The division has specialists board certified in allergy and immunology, clinical and laboratory immunology, pediatric infectious diseases, and pediatric rheumatology.
The division's Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology (AIR) Section includes the allergy and asthma program, rheumatology and immunology program, and inpatient immunology consultation service. The division's Infectious Disease (ID) Section is specifically skilled at the management of serious or persistent infections, including meningitis, septicemia, serious pneumonia, fever of unknown origin, herpes infections, HIV / AIDS, and many other types of infections. The division also performs immunological evaluation of children with recurrent infections.
The Pediatric AIRID Division's programs and services include an allergy and asthma program, host defense and immuology program, infectious disease and fever of unknown origin (ID/FUO) clinic, and pediatric and adolescent HIV program.
