Dentistry
Overview
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry aims to improve the oral health care of infants, children and adolescents, including those with special health care needs.
The department's recently-renovated pediatric dentistry clinics in the School of Dentistry provide comprehensive oral health care, including the most up-to-date preventive and restorative services for children from infancy through early adolescence. Services include preventive measures and sealants, restoration of primary and young permanent teeth, management of hard and soft tissue pathology, and treatment of traumatic injuries. Space maintainers and minor tooth movement appliances are provided when indicated.
Fees for services at the dental student and resident clinics are lower than those in private practice. Members of the faculty also offer dental care in the Dental Faculty Practice which is also located in the School of Dentistry. Learn more by visiting the UNC Pediatric Dentistry Clinic's Web site.
Special Services
The department offers inhalation sedation (nitrous oxide) as well as referrals for treatment in the conscious sedation clinic or under general anesthesia in UNC Hospitals' operating rooms if needed.
